Skull Makeup Tutorial
Halloween brought many character makeups to my chair. The one that stood out; was a skull makeup I created for Lauren Hawk. I’ve done sugar skulls in the past, however, I feel classic skull makeup can be a bit boring. I researched skull anatomy and noticed that realistically painted bones used gradient splatters of paint instead of the typical shadow fades I am accustomed to. Looking closer, I decided the best way to ensure the makeup would read like a skull was to use a screen to guide me. I set up my iPhone and reversed the camera so I could see how it appeared visually on a screen. My lovely model Lauren, agreed to let me film the process. I wanted to try something new and video is a medium that I have yet to master. Filmed entirely on an iPhone and edited in Photoshop, here’s my first stab at video production and makeup tutorial.
